When looking for a place to take an outdoors-themed vacation, one usually wants mountain activities for the winter (skiing and snowboarding) or summer (hiking and mountain biking), a large body of water for boating, jet-skiing or water-skiing, and valley based adventures such as golf, hot-air ballooning, geo-caching, river rafting and fly fishing. Of course, all of the above should come in a setting with picturesque views and a top-notch resort. Whether traveling in winter or summer, the Ogden Valley, which comprises the towns of Huntsville, Eden and Liberty, is a place that can offer travelers any type of outdoor recreation they might be interested in while staying in style.
The Ogden Valley is convenient to three major ski resorts. Snowbasin hosted the Alpine skiing events during the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Skiers can still test their skills on the hills by trying the NASTAR racing system available at Snowbasin. Powder Mountain offers seven different lifts which can take skiers as high as 8,900 feet. Those who want to experience acres of pristine powder can book a tour that takes them into out-of-the-way areas via helicopters and snow-cats. Wolf Mountain has a variety of programs for young and beginning skiers, and is lit up until 9 p.m. every night. Those who choose the night-ski option will find the pass rates to be very reasonable.
After the snow melts, the mountains continue to be a prime activity spot. Hikers can try to climb either Ben Lomond Peak or Mt. Ogden Peak – both above 9,500 feet. The valley contains a series of mountain biking trails, as do the ski resorts.
All of the snow from the mountains melts into the Ogden Valley, and the five-square miles of Pine View Reservoir. All of the usual water activities, from boating, to jet-skiing, to water-skiing are available on this beautiful body of water, and can be arranged through, which is part of the local resort and contracts with local experts in a variety of areas.
Wolf Creek Adventures can also arrange for vacationers to experience kayaking, river rafting, horseback riding, geo-caching, hot-air balloon rides and fly-fishing. There is also a golf course available at Wolf Creek Resort.
The prime source of accommodations in the area is http://www.UtahLodging.com , where vacationers can find just about any type of set-up they are looking for in terms of either cost or number of people in the party. Couples can get hotel rooms or small condos. Groups of friends or families can have their choice of large condos with various lock-out options as well as luxury homes right on the fairways of the golf course. Since Wolf Creek is not yet as well known as other more famous Utah resort destinations, the rates are still very reasonable.
While in the Ogden Valley, check out the Shooting Star Tavern in Huntsville, which has been serving up cold ones in Utah since 1879. Another interesting spot to visit is the Huntsville Monastery.
