North Fork Park
http://www.utahwild.com/mountains/wasatch/north_fork_park.shtml
Location: beneath Ben Lomond Peak in Ogden Valley just north of the town of Liberty.
This is another good area for snowshoeing, beginner cross country skiing, telemark skiing and winter camping...without the crowds. I went in mid-February on President's Day Weekend, and few people were there. Also, this area had lots more snow than similar elevation areas near Salt Lake (which basically had none). At least several miles (probably much more) of Park/Campground roads

Skiing in Ogden, Utah, USA

Ogden Valley Offers Many Levels of Skiing for a Utah Family Ski Trip

Feb 10, 2009 Susan Harper

Park City isn't the only place to go when planning a Utah ski trip. Three resorts in Ogden provide a full-range of ski options. Those ski areas are reviewed below:

There are 13 resorts to choose from in Utah that offer a variety of skill-levels for skiing, snowboarding, and other alternative activities such as helicopter skiing and snowkiting. The resorts are almost all open until the end of March. Three of these resorts are nestled in Ogden Valley.

Wolf Mountain is a Family-Oriented Resort

Wolf Mountain is Utah's smallest resort with 85 skiable acres. The resort offers a family-friendly resort where the entire family can learn to ski and hone their skills. One of the three lifts at the cozy, uncrowded resort is designed specifically for beginners and accesses the newly-recontoured beginner slope. All trail terrain varies according to skill and all trails are well-groomed. Approximately 20 percent of the mountain is appropriate for beginners, 50 percent for intermediate skiers, and 20 percent for advanced skill levels, according to the Wolf Mountain page at Utah.com. The resort's terrain park has increased in size by 50 percent and includes 20 features for beginners as well as advanced freeriders. Average annual snowfall at Wolf Mountain is 300 feet and the resort also offers snowmaking capabilities that cover 60 percent of the 110 skiable acres. Wolf Mountain is 15 miles northeast of Ogden or 49 miles north of Salt Lake City.

Snowbasin Offers Olympic-Style Challenges

Snowbasin is a much larger and challenging resort with approximately 20 percent of the mountain beginner level (seven runs), 30 percent intermediate (30 runs), and 50 percent advanced (67 runs, 35 most difficult and 32 expert only), according to snowbasin.com. Welcoming skiers since 1939, Snowbasin became a world-famous resort during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games when Snowbasin hosted the Men's and Women's Downhill, Super Giant Slalom, and Alpine Combined races. Snowbasin offers 12 lifts that run skiers up nearly 3000 vertical feet to 104 groomed runs, 2,820 skiable acres, and 3 terrain parks. The resort boasts a 400 feet average annual snowfall, a mid-mountain snow average of 89 feet, and greater than 600 acres of computer-controlled snowmaking capabilities. Snowbasin, just 40 minutes north of Salt Lake City, does not offer night skiing and is the most expensive of three locations discussed.

Powder Mountain Lives Up to Its Name

Powder Mountain is the only resort strictly using natural snow on the slopes. The 5,500 skiabl e acres get an average annual snowfall of 500 feet and has a mid-mountain average of 78 feet. The 124 groomed runs are approximately 25 percent beginner, 40 percent intermediate, and 35 percent advanced, according to utah.com. The resort, open since 1971, has seven lifts and two terrain parks. Beyond the skiing and snowboarding available, Powder Mountain also offers snowcat skiing, helicopter skiing, and snowkiting for those looking for something a little different.

Snowcat skiing and helicopter skiing take skiers and snowboarders by Snowcat or helicopter to backcountry areas for skiing and snowboarding the ungroomed deep powder areas. Powder Mountain is one of the few resorts in the country offering snowkiting and snowkiting lessons. Snowkiting is a new sport, using a canopy-shaped airfoil kite attached to a person on skis or a snowboard, allowing the "kiter" to freestyle jump to distances of up to 100 feet, to accelerate up to 50 mph, and to cross plains, climb up slopes and ski down them. Powder Mountain is 19 miles northeast of Ogden and 55 miles north of Salt Lake City. http://www.OgdenValleyRealty.com     darin 801-745-4663

Quick Facts:
- Pineview Reservoir is accessible at anytime from Port Ramp Marina on the west shoreline. The gates are not locked at this boat ramp.
- The only overnight camping at Pineview Reservoir is at Anderson Cove Campground on the south shoreline.

No known water temperature measurements are kept for Pineview. Like any body of water, temperatures vary based on season and climate.

- Boat rentals are available from the Concessionaire at Cemetery Point.
- Dogs are welcome anywhere along the shoreline EXCEPT adjacent to the developed beaches at Cemetery Point, Middle Inlet, or Anderson Cove.

For more information on this as well as other recreation activities in the Ogden area, contact the Union Station Visitor Information Center. (2501 Wall Avenue in Ogden, Open Monday - Saturday 8am to 430pm, 801-625-5306).

Pineview Reservoir is the busiest reservoir for it's size in the State of Utah. This is because of it's close proximity to Davis and Weber Counties population centers. You can leave your home and be at the water's edge within one-half hour. The scenery around Pineview is worth the visit. Seeing the mountains from the surface of the water is an experience to remember.

Boating laws are enforced by Weber County Sheriff Deputies. The ramps, campgrounds, and picnic grounds are owned by the US Forest Service and operated under a special use permit issued to American Land and Leisure from Orem, Utah. The water levels and dam are owned and operated by the USDI Bureau of Reclamation and local irrigation companies.

Port Ramp Marina

Located on the west shoreline of the reservoir; this is the most used launching facility. The road into the marina has a large Forest Service sign identifying the site immediately across Highway 158. The facility has a concrete ramp to launch boats and a large paved parking lot. It also has a gravel lot used as overflow parking. Port Ramp has a convenience dock for public use. A sewage dump station is located next to the two toilet buildings in the paved parking lot. There is a Concessionaire manager who lives on site if you need information or assistance.

Cemetery Point Marina
Cemetery Point Marina is located in the town of Huntsville. To access the facility, follow Highway 39 to the eastern side of Huntsville. Follow the signs to the swim beach and marina. Cemetery Point is at the end of the road thru Huntsville.

The marina is the first entryway to the left after the fee station. No trailers are allowed beyond this point because parking is tight in the beach area.
This marina is fairly simple with a small paved parking area, a larger gravel parking lot, and a small set of convenience docks.

Anderson Cove Campground Boat Ramp
On the south shore of the reservoir is Anderson Cove Campground. This recreation complex includes a shoreline campground with reservable individual campsites and two group sites, a day-use beach, and a boat ramp. A convenience dock is provided for public use.

Remember: GLASS, FIRES, OR CAMPING IS NOT ALLOWED ON THE SHORELINE ANYWHERE. Boats must be anchored at least 20 feet off the shore to stay overnight. These rules are to protect the quality of the water from the impacts of camping on the shoreline.

Numerous facilities around the 28 miles of shoreline offer many types of water-based recreation. This includes trailheads, fishing access, and beaches. The reservoir has buoys marking areas of the water surface designated with speed or boat restrictions. Please honor these buoy lines. Any type of vessel is allowed at Pineview but we discourage boats that are extremely large or speed boats. The reservoir is only 3,000 acres when full and those types of boats are out of place. We also limit the number of boats on the lake at one time at our ramps. This limit is based on the current water level and to make the boating safer for everyone. On the west shore near the narrow neck of the reservoir is an area designated for “no wake” boating. This allows many non-motorized boating uses like wake boarding or sail boating. This is where the wind tends to be more consistent. Access here is from the Pineview Trailhead which also serves as parking for the Skyline Trail and the Pineview West Trail which follows the shoreline for over three miles.

Fishing occurs nearly everywhere at the reservoir. There are many roadside parking areas all around the reservoir. Popular sites are in the shallow waters of the reservoir on the south-east or north-east sides. A “no wake” area has been designated for fishing in the waters just north of the Huntsville peninsula at the east shore (Spring Creek). Types of fish in Pineview are warm water species including the planted Tiger Muskie which are reaching record sizes. Check the State of Utah fishing regulations since there are size and quantity limits.

The reservoir has some great beaches. Cemetery Point is very popular and has picnic tables and paved parking. North of Huntsville is Middle Inlet beach which is good access but not as fancy as Cemetery Point. Anderson Cove Campground on the South shore has a beach area available for day-use.

To get to Pineview Reservoir travel on I-15 to Ogden, exit at 12th street, to Hwy 39.  Travel approx 6 mile to the reservoir.

There's a difference between snow from heaven and artificial snow. Snow purists prefer Ogden's Powder Mountain Resort, where only genuine, fallen-from-the-sky Utah powder graces its steep slopes. Known for its gold medal terrain and excellent natural snow, Powder Mountain is a prime winter and summer destination. Its ski and board season usually lasts from mid-November to mid-April. Although the resort has always welcomed hikers and mountain bikers during the summer months, a 4 X 4 adventure tour was offered for the first time in 2008. The resort offers slope-side accommodations and free shuttle service to most of the lodging in Eden.

Partnering with various local and national organizations, Powder Mountain has hosted cleanup projects, environmental awareness campaigns and has supported various non-profit organizations. Powder Mountain is deeply committed to not only provide the best possible mountain experience for visitors and employees, but to also reach out beyond the slopes and help the greater good.

One of Powder Mountain's greatest assets, the Lightning Ridge Snowcat will take you to the top of Lightning Ridge with very little effort. Once on top you will access over 700 challenging acres of pristine powder snow with an impressive 2100' vertical drop.

Dates – August 5-8, 2009

Hours – 11am – 11pm although buildings will close each night at 10pm.

Sure, Christmas songs are on the radio, trees and tinsel are in stores, and Christmas lights have been up since before the snow came.

But to some, the Christmas season doesn't truly start until the lights go on at Ogden's Christmas Village, a collection of 59 sometimes-whimsical, sometimes-historical cottages.

The smaller-than-human-scale cottages have been installed in Ogden's Municipal Gardens, creating a miniature village where elves, snowmen and Santa are in a perpetual state of getting ready for Dec. 25.

Since 1962, people have made Christmas Village a tradition, and new families join the tradition every year — not only for the cottages, but also for children to get a chance to meet Santa in the one human-sized cottage near the gardens' entrance on 25th Street.

Just imagine – a bird’s eye view of the beautiful Ogden Valley! Floating, calm, quiet, peaceful. Catching the sun coming up over the mountains, or, watching the sunset over Ben Lomond Peak and the North Ogden Divide. It’s the perfect way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary of important date with your loved ones.

Balloon rides are available during the morning and occasionally the evening in exceptionally calm weather.
